We are surrounded by stimuli, distractions, and stressors that disconnect us from our bodies and each other. What’s more, we don’t often have time and space to come back home to our bodies and self-regulate before connecting with others. And yet, our bodies are constantly responding and reacting to each other in conscious and unconscious ways.
Resmaa Menakem wrote: “Our bodies guide and follow other bodies; a settled nervous system encourages other nervous systems to settle. This is why a calm, settled presence can create room for a multitude of possibilities, and become the foundation for changing the world.”
Therefore, in a world full of dysregulated individuals, co-regulation can be the medicine that brings us closer together in authentic ways.
In this workshop, we will explore coregulation through a trauma-informed and polyvagal lens with the use of somatic practices that will help you cultivate an understanding of your somatic experience of the world around you and bring you into closer relationship with your body and others.
Through breath, movement, and touch (with consent), you will explore how to effectively regulating yourself as a foundation for coregulation, learn how to listen to the changes that happen in your body when you interact with others, create mindful and consensual coregulatory experiences with others, and realize how you can use the power of coregulation to create harmonious relationships and communities.
