What is nervous system regulation?

Nervous system regulation is about bringing your nervous system back into balance. This complex system, which regulates the functioning of many organs and other systems of the body, can become dysregulated when you’re chronically exposed to stress and don’t give your body enough time to recover. Your system may get “stuck” in the sympathetic state (aka fight or flight mode) in order to respond to the stressors or it may shift into a state of immobilization, or “shutdown,” in order to conserve resources.

This dysregulation leads to symptoms of anxiety, depressed behavior, chronic pain and muscle tension, poor posture, digestive issues, headaches, poor sleep, improper breathing patterns, dissociation, and more.

Through tools like somatic practices, breathwork, mindfulness, behavior change techniques, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle changes, I teach clients how to shift out of sympathetic or shutdown states and into a state of social engagement (aka “rest and digest”), create unique systems that support them long after our work together is complete, and guide them into deep relationship with their body so that they can learn to recognize and respond to different nervous system states.

Making nervous system regulation a regular part of your life builds resilience, allows your body to restore its natural resources and self-healing capabilities, and attunes you to the language of your body so that you can manage your symptoms with ease, explore the root causes of your health issues, experience more joy in your life, and have the energy to do the things you love.

Who is this for?

Nervous system regulation and holistic health coaching is for anyone who is dealing with chronic stress, chronic fatigue, burnout, chronic muscle tension, lack of motivation, or inability to relax; wants support processing difficult emotions through a somatic approach; or wants to build resilience and change their relationship with stress.

This is also great for anyone who wants to deepen their relationship with their body, experience more joy and vitality, increase energy levels, or optimize their wellbeing.

What to expect in a session.

Every experience is different for every person. We’ll meet virtually (on Zoom), check in and briefly chat about what’s been coming up for you and what the focus of the session will be. We then will move into further discussion, strategizing, processing, and reflection. This may involve Somatic Stress Release, movement, meditation, mindfulness, breathwork, and/or self-bodywork, depending on what comes up for you and your level of mobility. I put a heavy focus on somatic practices and nervous system regulation. These sessions are tailored to YOU and your unique strengths, lifestyle, preferences, and goals.
